Award "Simone de Beauvoir on Freedom of Women" 2011
is awarded to LUDMILA Ulitskaya
Created in 2008 to mark the 100 th birthday Simone de Beauvoir (January 9, 1908), the Prix Simone de Beauvoir for women's freedom "rewards the outstanding work and action of women and men who, in the spirit of Simone de Beauvoir contribute to promoting the freedom of women in the world. By submitting this distinction, the Board intends to help mobilize international solidarity, reaffirm the right of women, the protection of those who fight today to risk their lives, and defend with them the ideals of equality and peace.
Supported by Cultures (French Institute), the Centre National du Livre, Editions Gallimard and Université Paris Diderot, the Prix Simone de Beauvoir for women's freedom " endowed with 30,000 euros , is awarded annually to the winner (s) elect (s) by an international jury.

During the first three years of its existence, the price "Simone de Beauvoir on Freedom of
women" distinguished women or
associations who demonstrate exemplary commitment to the
struggle for women's rights. For 2011, the Jury felt it was important to encourage

LUDMILA Ulitskaya is the author of numerous novels and new (over 2 million sales), as well as several screenplays. Writer flagship of her generation, she echoed the revival of Russian literature. Born in 1943 in Azerbaijan, where his parents had been evacuated during the war, Ludmila grew up in Moscow and studied biology and genetics university. Contributor to its early days of Jewish musical theater, she was part of the collective authors of Claustrophobia, the now legendary show by Lev Dodin. She has written numerous plays and screenplays. Since the early '80s, she devoted herself entirely to literature, and has won numerous literary prizes in Italy, Russia, Germany and France). She is married to the sculptor Andrei Krassouline.
